Virtual Worlds In The Real World

3XP came and went the past weekend— and for those unfortunate souls who couldn't attend, I will fill you in on everything you missed— the good, the bad, the wildly popular, and the embarrassing mistakes.
For those who aren't aware, 3XP was a large gaming convention hosted by G7DAO and set in Pasadena, California. The entire convention focused solely on Web3 gaming and Web3 gaming projects. Blockchains, VCs, and DAOs showed up en mass to experience the latest web3 gaming has to offer.
Though we all exist on Twitter, Discord, and Telegram to varying degrees, IRL events like 3XP are vital for networking and showcasing the future of the space. While there were plenty of exclusive drops and world-premier debuts, more worthwhile and lasting connections were made than anything else.

Conference Exclusives

3XP was packed to the brim with Web3 games strutting their stuff. The following list of Web3 games that showed up is not definitive:
Dimensionals
Shrapnel
Wildcard
Parallel
DeFi Kingdoms
Ev.Io
The Bornless
Last Remains
The Fabled
Deadrop
MetalCore
My Pet Hooligan
Lords of Light
The Nemots
Lazy Soccer
Megaweapon
Machine's Arena
Champion's Ascension
Blockchains like Ronin, Avalanche, and Polygon made themselves known on the showroom floor, and there were more than a few DAOs with founders and members in attendance. HerDAO, DeveloperDAO, EduDAO, and WolvesDAO not only showed up, but hosted panels and discussions about various topics within Web3 gaming. Immutable, Magic Eden, and Stardust were all front and center, handing out merchandise or ensuring people knew just how important their products are for the industry. An Esports arena sponsored by the Brave browser even hosted several esports tournaments:
Deadrop drummed up plenty of hype for their tournament with a content creator showdown. Certified FPS legend, Kyroh, took home the win after several rounds and dozens of impressive kills.
3XP streamed their esports events live on Twitch and brought in a peak of 250K+ views. Ev.Io enjoyed the most viewers, with Megaweapon and Champions Ascension not far behind. This is incredibly encouraging, as 3XP admins have stated they paid no money for promotion on Twitch, yet saw themselves on Twitch's front page with hundreds of thousands of views.

Mixing Web2 and Web3

While the event was meant to showcase and promote Web3 games and all their ancillary projects, that doesn't mean Web2 didn't have a presence.
Dean Takahashi, lead writer for GamesBeat and overall video game guru, made his rounds at the convention. Google's Web3 business development lead, Inaki Moreno, gave a talk in between networking. And Michael Lee, vice president of Activision Blizzard, gave everyone in attendance shudders during his panel, The Entrance of Incumbent Game Publishers. Even T-Mobile had people present, like Dan Thygesen, their lead of innovation and development.
Representatives from Team Liquid and Faze Clan hosted panels and afterparties, showing their support for the future of gaming with knowledge and pizza. They weren't the only web2 super stars peeking into the world of web3, though. Smash streamer C9Mango hung out with League of Legends content creator Meteos at the esports stage, and each took a shot at Champions Ascension's Old Sally event. All while Yassuo of 100 Thieves and Bobqin of Team Liquid tried out games on the HyperPlay launcher.
But of course, Web3 still led the dance. Coinbase, BNB Chain, MetaMask, and MoonPay spoke, played games, and watched Web3's best and brightest show off what they've built.

Demos, Drops, and Discussions

The gathering wasn't just for games to show off their latest alpha build; it was for sharing ideas and pursuing knowledge. Dozens of panels, debates, and discussions took place throughout the convention, all led by the industry's leading minds and developers.
The Emergence of the Web3 Gaming Content Creator featured the greatest Web3 content creators (of course), and Winning Over Traditional Gamers: Strategies for Successfully Promoting Web3 Games let big brains from Ava Labs, Xborg, Brave, and WolvesDAO share their best strategies with the audience. The importance of community, how gaming is shaping new media, and the application of Web3 tech were some of the many topics being discussed.
3XP's events had something for every kind of Web3 gamer. If you're a VC, they had Raising Capital in a Bear Market. If you're a lawyer, you could attend Regulatory and Legal Issues Around Web3 Gaming. And if you're a gamer who just likes Web3 games, you could peruse the showroom floor and try out your next favorite game for as long as you want.

The Real Alpha

As with most conferences and conventions like this, the real value comes from the relationships and connections you make while you're there. The overall atmosphere at 3XP was one of positivity, camaraderie, and optimism.
It's at places like this where you can casually walk up to the lead developer of your favorite game studio and strike up a conversation. And that accessibility shouldn't be taken for granted. These events are important for people to come together with a shared passion or purpose to support one another. Humans are, after all, social beings, regardless of how anti-social one might be.
Case in point: Gamified live from 3XP. The WolvesDAO and EthLizards are two of the most influential organizations in Web3 gaming, with a combined 30+ members attending the convention. Though they've been hosting one of the most popular Twitter spaces for several months, all interaction has been online. Having members finally meet in person to combine their ideas only strengthens bonds and makes for great conversation.
Events that allow creators, gamers, developers, artists, investors, and writers to come together and celebrate their shared passion are vital. 3XP and the other events around the world like it are only just getting started.
G7DAO released a video that sums up everything succinctly while hyping 3XP 2024 at the same time.
