A client handed us a spreadsheet with 47 features on it. We told them to build 4. They wanted everything their competitor had, plus every "nice to have" a user had ever mentioned. We asked one question: "What's the one thing this needs to do well?" Silence. So we cut it down. 4 features, done properly. Three months later - higher activation than their old, "complete" product ever had. Users didn't miss the other 43. They were too busy using the thing that actually worked. More features isn't ambition. It's often fear, wearing a to-do list. Build the right thing. Not the long thing. I’ve learned that a wellbeing app isn’t really about features. It’s about understanding people. A dashboard can show progress. A reminder can create a habit. AI can provide personalized insights. But none of that matters if the user doesn’t feel understood. When building a wellbeing mobile app, I think about three things first: → What does the user actually struggle with? → What will make them come back consistently? → How can technology support them without overwhelming them? The best wellbeing products don’t try to control the user. They quietly help the user understand themselves better. Good technology tracks behavior. Great technology creates better experiences around it. That’s the difference between building an app and building something people actually use.
