This research-backed opinion article examines a growing but underreported issue in Philippine education. And that is the decline of keyboard typing proficiency among college students. The piece explores three intersecting causes: the generational shift toward touchscreen devices, the removal of typing from school curricula, and the economic realities that limit student access to laptops and computers in lower-income households. What distinguishes this article is its attention to context often missing from global discussions, specifically how economic constraints in developing countries like the Philippines create educational gaps that wealthier nations rarely consider.
